About me and TTC timeline

I decided to write this blog after two years of trying (and failing) to make a baby.

This isn’t a light-hearted topic, but i’m hoping that by sharing my experiences along the way it will give other readers hope, a few smiles and the feeling that they’re not alone in this bloody difficult journey.

Here’s our journey so far:

Sept 2012 – Married my amazing husband and started trying for a baby

Dec 2012 – Miscarriage 1 (6 weeks)

June 2013 – Diagnosed with PCOS

Dec 2013 – Miscarriage 2 (11 weeks, but baby stopped growing around 6 weeks)

February 2014 – Started Clomid and Metformin

July 2014 – Miscarriage 3 (10 weeks, but baby stopped growing around 6 weeks)

October 2014 – Laparoscopy and hysteroscopy with ovarian drilling

December 2014 – First appointment at recurrent miscarriage clinic, specialising in Reproductive Immunology. Started course of treatment with Humira, vitamins, Metformin and baby aspirin

January 2015 – Started steroid treatment and started trying for another baby

May 2015 – Miscarriage 4 (5 weeks)

June 2015 – Miscarriage 5 (5 weeks)

July 2015 – Started hydroxychloroquine, along with steroids

September 2015 – Positive pregnancy test and viable scan with heartbeat at 6 weeks

October 2015 – Scan at 7.5 weeks showing baby and heartbeat measuring on track 

November 2015 – scans at 11, 12 and 13 weeks with heartbeat and everything measuring on track 

December 2015 – 20 week scan, all progressing normally 

May 2016 – our beautiful baby son is born 

They say that if at first you don’t succeed, try try again, so we’re still trying!!

  5. Hi, I just came across your blog and have been having a read – it caught my eye as our blogs look almost identical – I thought I was on my own page! Also saw you are near Epsom, so am I -very strange?!

    • Hello! Yes, I’ve just had a look at your blog and we are very similar – how funny is that!? I only read a few posts, but have you been to see the doc about not having any luck getting pregnant? Sorry if you have, but just checking. Especially if you have very painful periods, it may be worth a check to see if all is well. I’ve had pretty much every test under the sun done, so I always think its good to know just in case 🙂

  6. Hi, nice to “meet ” you – I look forward to following your blog 🙂
    I don’t mind you asking at all, I have been to the docs over the past few years, have been diagnosed with polycystic ovaries and then had a laparoscopy to check for endometriosis but there didn’t seem to be any. Blood tests show hormone levels are good too – so I’m constantly baffled by painful periods and inability to conceive! Actually have just been referred and going to infertility clinic on Saturday, thank you so much for offering your email, I may well email you following my appointment as not sure what is to come next!

  12. Yay for your final results so far!! Were you able to pregnant with PCOS on your own? I have PCOS, have never gotten pregnant with out treatments, clomid for >1yr and 3 IUIs unsuccessful. We’ve gone through 3 FET rounds for IVF and I had miscarriages with all of them (I had my d&c today actually). What was the hydroxychloroquine, along with steroids that yoinwere on- do you think that made the difference? Thanks!

    • Thank you! Yes, I’ve fallen pregnant six times – twice naturally, once with clomid and three times with letrozole (an alternative to clomid). It took quite a long time to fall naturally, so the treatments definitely helped. I’m so sorry to hear of your losses, I really am.

      Hydroxychloroquine was part of my reproductive immunology treatment, along with the steroids. It was the first time I’d tried it, so I think it probably was that which made the difference. Is that something which you might be able to try? I think it’s quite a new treatment. I wish you so much luck with everything, lots of love xxx

  13. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. Im currently going through my 4th miscarriage and you have given me some hope. We really thought this pregnancy might have been our time as I have been on the progesterone and prednisolone but it wasn’t meant to be. Maybe hydroxychloroquine is the answer for me too!

    • Oh I’m so sorry to hear that, I really am. I had two miscarriages on prednisolone, it was only when we added hydroxychloroquine that it somehow did the trick. I definitely think it’s worth talking to your doctor about. I don’t know how it all works but it’s definitely worth a conversation. I’m so sorry again xxx

  14. Thank you for your reply. I am waiting for my next appointment with the recurrent miscarriage clinic and will most certainly be asking about Hydroxychloroquine. I wonder if they can prescribe it via the NHS? Im guessing we may need to go private.

  16. Hi could you tell me who your specialist is that prescribed the hydroxychoraquine. Im looking for a dr in the UK to prescribe it to me after 9 miscarriages. thanks

  19. Hello, congrats on your Baby boy! I am seeing Dr S and just had the results back from my first lot of humira – I unfortunately had a flare from 33 to 58! I’m totally gutted. We have been trying for 4 years and I have had 6 miscarriages. Would you mind telling me your dosage of hydroxychlorine, when you started taking it and for how long and also if you took it with prenisoline? I think it is the drug that will make the difference, but I have a feeling dr S won’t prescribe until I have another miscarriage.

    • Oh I’m sorry to hear that – I can’t imagine how frustrating that was. And the humira made me feel terrible too, so knackered. Bless you. I took 200mg of hydroxychloroquine, started taking it 6 weeks before we started trying again and I took it with the prednisolone as I had two miscarriages with just prednisolone, so I was given it on top. It’s definitely worth having a chat with Dr S about, he might have a good reason for not trying it yet, but no harm in asking. I really hope that he can help you, please let me know how you get on xx

  20. Thanks for getting back to me. I’ve already emailed the office about it so I hope he puts me on it. Don’t think I can go through anymore losses – I’ve already had 3 this year! Yes I will let you know how I get on! Fingers crossed!
